Democracy is a form of government most broadly interpreted as a "rule by the people" (from the Greek δημος, "regular folks", and κρατος, "power"). Aristotle believed that each form of "correct" government had a "deviant" form corrosponding to it: democracy was regarded the deviant form of polity.
